Frequently Asked Questions

Are the crop X, Y, width, and height values based on the original image pixels?

Yes. The displayed canvas is scaled to fit the page, but the crop state is tracked in the source image’s real pixel coordinates.

Does this tool resize the image or only crop it?

It only crops. There are no rotation, zoom, resize, or output-dimension controls beyond choosing the crop rectangle.

What happens if I crop a GIF?

GIF uploads are exported as PNG when you download the crop. The component explicitly switches GIF output to image/png.

Can I lock the crop to 16:9 or 1:1?

Yes. The aspect ratio menu includes free, 1:1, 16:9, 4:3, 3:2, and 2:3, and the numeric width/height inputs stay linked when a ratio is active.

Why doesn’t the tool start with the full image selected?

On load it creates a default crop inset roughly 10% from each side, leaving about 80% of the image selected. That gives you a visible starting rectangle to adjust.
